How to Turn $5 Ikea Mirrors Into Beautiful Sconces
If you've been pining for a pair of accordion sconces, you'll want to head to the bathroom department of Ikea. Turns out, Ikea's Frack mirror ($5) makes the perfect base for a DIY sconce! Inspired by Daniel Kanter's tutorial, I decided to tackle the project myself.
All it took was a couple of chrome-dipped bulbs, a lamp socket, and some colorful cording to assemble them. Pretty swanky for $30!
The adjustable arms make them ideal for bedside reading — I can move them closer for more precise lighting, but the chrome tip keeps the bare bulb from being too bright. They also don't hog precious nightstand space and can easily be moved from home to home (a renter's dream!). For a full step-by-step breakdown, check out Daniel Kanter's detailed tutorial on Manhattan Nest.
