The Nueva School is part of a mixed-use development in San Mateo, California, and was designed in order to connect students to a complex world around them. The architects are aiming for LEED Platinum certification.

The organization of the school is not based on associating certain spaces with specific knowledge domains. Instead, it generalizes spaces and creates spaces which can be used with flexibility. It is surrounded with various outdoor spaces which also act as a connection between the school and the local community.
