Gabriel Schama creates intricate wooden sculptures with laser-cutting technology

Schama starts off with 1/8-inch pieces of mahogany plywood and uses a laser-cutting machine funded by a Kickstarter campaign to manufacture pieces which he then glues together. This technique results in beautiful reliefs that bring different patterns to life by transforming them into three-dimensional objects. The entire process starts with a piece of paper. Scharma experiments with different patterns by creating paper cuts that he layers into a colorful artwork. The paper test models create the effect of depth and provide a kind of preview of the final artwork.

The depth and detailing of the sculptures are perfected using a Exacto knife. One piece takes weeks to complete. In order to dedicate his time to his craft and expand into bigger works, the artist rents an art studio and managed to acquire a laser-cutting machine that allows her to bring her visions into reality. He is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to purchase an even bigger laser-cutter, and backers can score a piece of
