Using lightweight corrugated iron sheets and timber, UK design duo Freshwest designed an airy satellite working space and studio for a riverside area in Newcastle Emlyn, Wales. The designers of the small building named Rivershed are known for their multidisciplinary work, designing and producing everything from decorative objects and furniture to architectural structures.
The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, which celebrates the best in food and hospitality space design, asked the designers to design a small studio space meant to be located in an area overlooking the Teifi River in West Wales. Tucked down a small lane in Newcastle Emlyn, Ceredigion, the building replaces an existing shed with a more lightweight, organic structure built from timber and corrugated iron sheets.

The architects drew inspiration from the contrasts and patchwork found in the robust corrugated agricultural building of the area and the soft, natural features of agriculture. The soft geometric form of the final design is immersed in its surroundings thanks to a large glass door system that opens up onto a terrace overlooking the river. The interior, designed by B3 Designers, is dominated by wood and warm tonalities of the finishes.
