We’re ringing in the New Year strong with an electrifying new video from our partners over at Pickathon, the world’s most sustainable large-scale outdoor concert. In 2015, the Mountain Stage brought us talent ranging from jazz legend Kamasi Washington to the folky vibrations of indie band Vetiver, and the rowdy yet intelligent sounds of Red Dirt group Turnpike Troubadours. To mix things up, we’re launching our first episode this year to the tune of a scuzzier lo fi sound that simply has critics going gaga. Catch a video of Cloud Nothings performing after the jump!
Like so much good music, Cloud Nothings was born in a basement. Then 18-year-old Dylan Baldi was both majoring in music and recording vocals and instrumentals at his parents’ Cleveland home, when he was approached to play a breakthrough gig in Brooklyn that convinced him to gather a band and drop out of college. Lucky for him and music fans the world over, the gamble proved the right choice- Baldi and his band have been touring since they first hit the stage together in 2009.

Their sound is refreshing amidst the overly produced and packaged tunes that overcrowd the radio today. Fans can’t help being drawn towards their youthful punk-rock energy mixed with an addictive pop tunefulness. Four acclaimed albums, several music festivals (including Bonnaroo, Pitchfork, and Coachella), considerable collaborative growth, and many international tours later, the band has made its way to our favorite stages just outside of Portland.
