General Motors recently announced plans to invest $500 million in the Lyft ride-sharing service and now the automaker has released its next step in redefining personal mobility. General Motors has announced the introduction of a new car-sharing service called Maven, which will let customers use its fleet of cars for as little as $6 an hour. Just like other car-sharing services, like Zipcar, users can use an app to search for and reserve a vehicle by location or car type and unlock the vehicle with their smartphone.
Ann Arbor, Michigan will be the first city to get the new car-sharing service, which will initially focus on serving faculty and students at the University of Michigan. GM will have vehicles available at 21 parking spots across the city. GM hasn’t announced all of the cities that will get Maven, but in the first quarter of this year, residents in Chicago and New York City will get the car-sharing service. Other markets are expected to be added later this year.
