How Gogoro will deliver electric scooters to the people who really want them

If you want your own hip and zippy Gogoro electric scooter, now is the time to voice your demand. They’re enormously popular in Taiwan and heading to Amsterdam, and have potential in pretty much any densely-populated urban center in the world. In fact, Gogoro has sold 4,000 of their battery-swapping scooters to date. But because different countries have varying regulations when it comes to scooters, according to CEO Horace Luke, the company has to surmount certain legal hoops before introducing the scooters to further markets. In the meantime, Luke and others devised a clever way to ensure they pursue only the most relevant markets. Which is where you come in. Learn more about the Gogoro OPEN (Owner Proposed Energy Network) Initiative, which allows consumers and businesses to nominate themselves and their communities to be a part of the next market expansion.

Gogoro will use the data collected from the OPEN portal to determine where to deploy their electric scooters next. In time, customers living in any Gogoro OPEN city will be able to purchase their own Smartscooter for a fraction of what it costs to buy a new car, and avail themselves of a myriad of charging options.

Which brings us to the next batch of news Gogoro announced at at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this morning. They’re expanding their charging technology to include the GoCharger, which discreetly powers up two batteries at a time – at home or at public charging stations. Previously, users only had the option of finding a battery bank and switching out their batteries there. This new initiative not only makes users more independent, but batteries placed in the GoCharger connect with the consumer’s smartphone. This makes it easy to track charge levels and rates, monitor battery health, and it’s also possible to receive charging notifications.

The company notes the GoCharger has two models, a speed charger and an overnight charger; both are expected to be available by the summer. And as long as the charger is made publicly available for anyone to use, the company will provide it free-of-charge. And if you’re still not impressed, the company also announced all new scooter models will come with a keyless feature that allows drivers to unlock their vehicles with their smartphones.

If you’re at CES, stop by and say hi to the Gogoro team. The Gogoro SmartscooterTM EV and GoStation® will be on display at Pepcom Digital Experience! today at the The Mirage, and at the Panasonic booth, Green Mobility area for the rest of the week (LVCC, Central Hall, Booth #9808).
