The Bamboo Bicycle Club is a London-based workshop specializing in teaching people the skills required to build their own bespoke bamboo bike frames through home build kits, educational packs and weekend workshops. Over 800 people have already participated in the program and successfully created their own customized frames, and the goal is to continue equipping people with the tools and knowledge they need to build their own locally sourced, safe and reliable bikes.
The team behind Bamboo Bicycle Club recently created the world’s most advanced bamboo bike which is currently on display at the ‘Cycle Revolution’ exhibition in London’s Design Museum until June 2016. Working in conjunction with a number of different universities, a completely unique build was achieved. Each tube is handmade and shaped to maximize their durability and achieve an excellent strength to weight ratio. In addition, the use of plant based resins greatly improves the overall carbon footprint. The primary objective of the build was to create a lightweight-racing frame, which would emulate existing bikes on the market but in a sustainable material, which can be grown and recycled anywhere in the world.
