Since electricity first entered the home in the 1910’s, residential energy use has been steadily on the rise, but thanks to new developments in alternative technologies, our dependence on electricity is becoming more sustainable than ever before. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), in 2012 about 20% of all carbon dioxide emissions in the United States came from residences. With residential energy consumption as low as it was in the 1980’s, we hope that indicates tremendous hope for a cleaner future.
