Prepare yourself for a serious case of cabin envy. Norwegian studio Lund Hagem completed the Cabin Knapphullet, a beautiful small annex that boasts spectacular views of Norway’s southeast coast in Sandefjord. Topped with a stepped and angular concrete roof, the sculptural cabin is wedged into a rocky landscape and even doubles as a viewing platform.
Designed as an annex to a summerhouse, the 30-square-meter Cabin Knapphullet is flooded with natural light thanks to a glass facade that wraps around the sides as well as a cutout on the roof. Surrounded by weather-beaten boulders and thick vegetation, the small abode is protected from the elements and blends into the landscape with its stepped concrete roof that folds down to the ground so that it can be used as a staircase for an elevated viewing platform connected to the rock face. Panoramic views of the sea can be enjoyed from the top of the roof.

The interior also features concrete in the flooring, but the cool tones are balanced by the use of naturally finished wood, which is used to construct parts of the ceiling, walls, and furnishings. The woven oak strips that cover the acoustic ceiling help mask the joints and create a beautiful pattern. The interior walls are made from natural sawn oak; however, the majority of the exterior walls are glazed to preserve seaside views. The small cabin sleeps two in a suspended oak bed, and also includes a basement level, small living space with a wood burning stove, and a bathroom. A concrete courtyard extends the building into the landscape.
