When Chevy unveiled the “electric car for the masses” earlier this year – the 2017 Bolt EV – the automaker estimated it would have a driving range of around 200 miles. Now Chevy has announced the EPA has given the Bolt a driving range of 238 miles, which is longer than anything in its class and even manages to drive a bit further than the base Tesla Model S.
With a 238-mile driving range, the Bolt EV also tops the upcoming Tesla Model 3 with its 215-mile-range, although Tesla may be able to squeeze out a few more miles before the Model 3 arrives late next year. The Bolt will also beat the Model 3, its closest competitor yet, to the market. In addition to the 238-mile range, Chevy has announced how efficient the Bolt is with a 128 MPGe city and 110 MPGe highway rating.

Chevy expects the 2017 Bolt to start arriving at select dealerships by the end of this year. Chevy hasn’t announced the full pricing for the Bolt, but it will start below $37,500 before any federal or state tax incentives.
