Fall is the perfect time for a road trip. The leaves are changing and the sticky summer heat is gone, meaning you can open the windows and bath in the crisp autumn air. The summer holiday-makers have gone home, leaving roads, restaurants and national monuments blissfully empty. Campgrounds are practically deserted at this time of year so road trippers can just pull in and set up on a whim, no reservations necessary. And the best part? They're small enough to slip down narrow country roads, light enough to be towed by your fuel-efficient car and snug enough to let you pull up and camp wherever the road takes you.
