Just like Audi and Volvo, BMW intends to electrify most of its mainstream models. Buyers can already purchase the X5 plug-in hybrid, and starting this spring, BMW plans to introduce a 3-Series plug-in hybrid called the 330e. The 330e will ease buyers into the electric lifestyle with a 22-mile electric-only driving range, while an efficient four-cylinder will keep them going for a total driving range of 373 miles.
Compared to the i3 and i8 models, the 330e retains a conventional exterior, which will be hard to differentiate from the standard 3-Series models. The only clear differences are the electric charging port that’s mounted on the front fender and a few extra badges. Under the hood, the 330e is powered by a 184-hp four-cylinder engine and a 88 horsepower electric motor that combined generate a total 252 horsepower, which is on par with the four-cylinder 328i model. A 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery mounted under the trunk can be recharged in just over three hours.

The 330e is going to arrive this spring with pricing that will start at $44,695.
