Europcar toasts largest-ever delivery of Renault ZOEs

Over 50 of the all-electric ZOEs will be used by car sharing service E-Car Club and to support firm's Deliver & Collect service

Europcar's all-electric fleet swelled substantially this week after it took delivery of 55 Renault ZOEs on Wednesday.

The cars will be used by Europcar employees in delivering its city-based Deliver & Collect service, where the rental car is dropped off at the customer's home to avoid them having to travel to a station or Europcar collection point.

"[T]he addition of the Renault ZOEs at many of our city branches, enabling our employees to get to and from our branches without expending any emissions, makes the Deliver & Collect service all the more environmentally friendly," said Gary Smith, managing director for Europcar UK, in a statement.

The vehicles will also be available for customers of E-Car Club, the electric car hire firm that Europcar has a majority stake in.

The fleet investment is part of Europcar's pledge to ensure that at least five per cent of its UK vehicles are electric by 2020. The delivery is also Renault's biggest electric vehicle order to date, and comes just days after the Renault-Nissan alliance reported that it had sold 350,000 vehicles since the Nissan LEAF was released in December 2010.
